Good morning, my journal pals!! It's Saturday morning and time for "Wordplay"! Names are intriguing to me. When I named my children I wanted them to have a common enough name so they wouldn't be teased, but not too common, so it would be distinct. While visiting this site, I found out that my daughter was the only one in the country with her name!! Cool, Chelsea!! Also, her son, Josiah, has only 2 other people with his first and last name!
According to the site How Many of Me, there are almost 300,000,000 people in the U.S. I'm not sure when this census was taken, so maybe it has passed this number already. The site claims there are 88,799 different last names and 5,163 different first names in common use in this country.
There are 172 people with my name. That doesn't surprise me too much because my last name is pretty common and I went to school with quite a few Valeries.
Visit the site and let me know how many of YOU there are! You DO NOT have to tell me your last name, or even your first name, just how many of you there are. Mind you, this only works in the U.S. For those of you outside of the U.S., see if there is anyone with your name in our country and let us know how many!!

ReplyDeleteAs for my kids names....My son was named after my husband but he wasn't a JR. I gave him a very Nordic middle name. I must have been psychic because he married a Norwegian girl and her brother's name is my son's middle name.
I wanted to name my daughter Carolyn and my husband wanted to name her Sharon. We compromised and came up with Karen which she never liked. LOL! Side note....My father (from Italy) always called her Cara (means dear), so she uses the name Kara which is close. : )

Well, there are 20 other people with my name... My mom spelled my first name a little different. Not so different that NO one had the same spelling, but enough that most people mispell it <LOL> And there are 0 people with G.'s name. His first name is fairly uncommon (it's the Scottish spelling) and his last name is pretty unusual also(only 8,249) ... so I wasn't too surprised. My son on th other hand has a 213..

ReplyDeleteWow, this was weird. There were approx half a million "Catherine"s but sero amount of people with my first and last name - which is impossible, I have a frillion relatives with my exact name. Odd, if there's NO ONE with my name, am I really here? lol is this all a dream?

There is approx. 1.5 million people with my first name and 750 people with my last name, and 4 with my name ( I didn't include my middle name ). I know there is at least one other with both names in the U.K. as I visited a site over a year ago. Also my last name is from the U.K. so there is probably even a greater percent in the U.K. of my name. Last week was too chaotic with work being done on my home and I did not even get a single photo of trees and leaves. I want some more calm this week and rest so that I am not in so much pain from doing too much. mark
