It's time for six new letters for "Weekly Sentence with Val #39. Before I give you

Happy day, everyone! I have been sluggish with the snow that has been falling and the cold
winter air. I just want to be in my bed. How about you? I think I am ready for Spring already.
Oh my. I think we have a little bit of time yet to go. I guess I have been stuck in bed too much
with the flu so I am ready to go outside and see some sunshine. It's not going to happen. LOL.

Sentence Game #38 letters, etc...

Good morning, my dear readers! Thanks for your comments on my precious grandsons.
They are growing up so fast. I talk to them on the phone a couple times a week.
Jonah squeals and giggles, and says a word or two, but doesn't reallly understand me.
He knows my voice, though. Josiah and I can now have conversations. I love it!!
I can hear the excitement in his voice! I hold on to Josiah's messages on the answering
machine just so I can hear his little voice. "Gammmmeeee, pick up the pone!" LOL It warms
and aches my heart. I guess that's part of being a grandma. I'm feeling quite a bit better
from my cold. I just have a little bit still in my chest. A few more days and I will be as
good as new.

I have six new letters for "Weekly Sentence with Val". Thanks for being patient with me

An update, pics of my grandbabies!...

I really needed the small break I took from posting here. I caught a stomach bug right before Christmas and then a head cold right after, that I am still fighting. So I have been sick for a few weeks. When I get sick, it tends to linger. I had a nice Christmas and New Year's Eve. They were quiet and calm. I like quiet and calm.

I saw my new neurosurgeon a couple of weeks ago. He said it looks like I need another Chiari decompression surgery (translation... brain surgery). He said there is no rush. I need to have two more MRIs and have to visit the ophthalmologist before I return to have another talk with him. I really like this neurosurgeon. He did my mom's neck/spine surgery when she had a fracture a few month's back. The surgery went beautifully. Mom's doing well! He also does Chiari surgery. I will explain what Chiari Malformation is again really soon. I know I have some readers who are scratching their heads. I see my neurosurgeon again on Feb. 17. I don't think the surgery will be until Spring or even Summer. I will certainly keep you all updated.

I will be posting six new letters for the "Weekly Sentence Game with Val" tomorrow morning! If anyone wants to be on an email alert list for this game (I put the letters in the email), just let me know in the comments section.

Lastly, I have some new pictures of my grandbabies. These were taken over the holidays. Josiah turned two in August. He is walking and talking and is potty trained. Jonah turned one in September. He is walking and saying a few words here and there. I haven't seen them in six months. Oh how I miss them. Grammy loves you, my boys!!!

A Christmas Message...

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was
pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was
found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband
was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he
had in mind to divorce her quietly.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a
dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home
as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She
will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he
will save his people from their sins."

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call
him Immanuel"—which means, "God with us."

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded
him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she
gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

What's up with me, Sentence Game, fun typing test...

I have decided to put the Weekly Sentence on hold until after Christmas. People seem to be busy for the holidays and less are playing, so I think this is a good idea. I am busier, as well. I am hoping to mail Christmas cards out this year. I haven't in a few years. I also want to make some gifts, as my funds are low, and I want to do some holiday visiting. I will pick up the game in the beginning of the new year.

I have an MRI scheduled on the 17th for my cervical spine and an appointment scheduled with my new neurosurgeon on the 22nd. I am glad I got squeezed in before Christmas. That is what is new with me. How is everyone else doing?

Happy Sunday to all of my pals out there! Sorry I am not posting a lot lately. I have had a couple of health problems that are slowing me down. I am hoping that in the new year my posting consistency will be much better. I know it will! In fact, I will make it a New Year's resolution! Right now, there is so much going on. I did get an appointment to see my neurosurgeon on December 22. I was having breathing problems unless I was wearing my cervical collar. I was wondering if this had to do with my Chiari. I can't imagine anything else, but I'm not a doctor. I'll let you all know what happens. I know I should be putting these updates in separate posts instead of in my Weekly Sentence postings. Like I said, in the new year, I vow to be better. Now on to the Weekly Sentence winner!...

Good morning, good morning! I hope you had a good Thanksgiving! I didn't post the Sentence Game last week because it was a holiday week and I was always having a health problem. Thank you for understanding =). I am doing a little better, but have to figure out what is going on with me. It is a neck problem. I'm wearing a cervical collar. "Six Things" Meme...

Miss Alaina tagged me to list "Six Things You May Not Know About Me".
I had to think for a couple of days on this one because I have not been
shy about revealing myself to you all. I even did a list of 100 Things About
Myself not too very long ago. I am going to re-post the list here soon so
my new readers can get to know me better. Here is my list of six along with
the rules for this challenge:

1. I love to eat with chopsticks. I prefer them over a fork.
I find that you can taste the metal when eating with a fork.
I have been searching for chopsticks to buy in my area and
can't locate any. Anyone know where to purchase them?

2. I hate the telephone. I wish I didn't have to own one.
Whenever my phone rings in the afternoon or evening it makes
me anxious. Sometimes I curse at it. LOL I can't get rid of
my telephone anxiety. It doesn't bother me as much in the
morning for some reason. I think it has something to do with
my increased pain and fatigue in the later hours of the day.
I also have anxiety making phone calls. Now what is wrong
with me? I have lost friends over not wanting to be on the
telephone. Most of my friends and family understand this
anxiety now, though.

3. I love doing sudoku puzzles. I have done so many of
them that the difficult and challenger level ones are
easy for me. I also love to do crossword puzzles and
word puzzles in general. I do all puzzles in pen.

4. My biggest pet-peeve is lack of empathy, or I guess we
could call it apathy. I think indifference, at this moment,
is causing more pain in this world, than evil is. Where has
empathy and passion gone, everyone??

5. I drink my fruit juices Kool-Aid, teas, etc., watered-down
or very, very weak. When I drink a glass of orange juice
it is 3/4 water and 1/4 orange juice. Drinks that I buy at
the store are just way too sweet for me. I have done this
all my life. Soda is too sweet. A can of soda will last me
all day and I will only drink half, if that.

6. I am appalled that we kill four - six million animals in
shelters in this country. Where is the outcry?? I believe in
the trap, fix, and release of feral cats. I think we can get
rid of this big problem in just ten years if people become
educated and responsible pet owners. Please spay or
neuter your pet if you aren't a breeder. If you must give
away a pet, do everything you can to give it a good home.
Also, please do not get a pet on a whim or for another person
for a gift without their consent. Thank you!

Good afternoon, my friends. It has been cold and rainy in my area the last few days. It is finally feeling like late fall or early winter to me. I don't mind cold so much, but I don't like wind and rain. It seems to go down to my bones. LOL Oh my, I just got a tsunami warning in my email box for Indonesia after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake just struck there. Let us hope and pray that there is no more damage or destruction. Good morning! How are you today? I'm okay. My pain isn't as bad as it was over the weekend, so that is a good thing. I am going to the local neurosurgeon's office tomorrow to sign releases to allow him to send for my records. I hope my other doctors cooperate quickly. I haven't had the best cooperation with Johns Hopkins. My surgeon was fabulous, but the staff has been poor.

I wanted to let you all know something that I have been doing every morning that is very dear to my heart. If you are a person of prayer and concerned about this country, you may want to join with me. I have hope for this country. I do!! I know that we have a good God that is always in control. Good morning and good Saturday to you... how are you today? I had a rough night last night. I didn't sleep a wink. I've been having problems with severe back pain. I am getting my records together and paying a visit to a local neurosurgeon - the one that did my mom's neck/spine surgery. He is familiar with Chiari malformation, so he just may be able to help me. I don't want to make a trip out of town if I don't have to. My mom really loves the doctor. Before he came to town recently, we had no neurosurgeon here. I will let you know how it goes.

I'm pretty happy we are swearing in a new President this January. I have hope. Do you? I am honoring Obama in the Weekly Sentence Game this week.

Hi guys! Thanks for all of your get-well wishes =)... I'm feeling lots better. I slept ALOT. I had a very peaceful birthday. It was nice, not too exciting, but nice and calm. I like calmness. flu, cats...

I've got the flu. I've been in bed for two days and have been asleep most of it. That's why I haven't posted the Weekly Sentence yet. I am so very sorry. You'll forgive me because it's my birthday, right? LOL

Plech, the flu. I've been up since the middle of the night. Honey woke me up when she sat on my head. So I decided to get on my computer. Boo is scratching on the wall right now. He wants me to go back to bed. Boo is very much like a dog. He follows me everywhere. He is my shadow. He won't go back to bed if I am up. He's tired. Poor Boo. Honey is different. She's very independent. She doesn't care what I do. I only see her a few times a day. She likes to be alone. The last time I couldn't find her she made a hole inside my boxsprings under my mattress and crawled up into it. When Honey doesn't want to be found she will not be found. Boo and Honey are so very different. They still don't like each other, which is very sad. They won't become friends, after four years. They each live on separate sides of the house. The only time they meet is when they vie for my attention or I am feeding them. Wow, Boo is still scratching on the wall. He wants to sleep.

I don't know why I started talking about my cats. I need to post the Weekly Sentence. I will be doing that a little later this morning and giving you all six new letters. Thanks so much for being patient. Take care, everyone... I'm going to go put a cat to bed.

Hi you =)!! How are you this nice Fall afternoon? I'm hanging in there. I wanted to let you all know that if you still intend to play the Sentence Game this week (letters: TREATS) I am extending the deadline until tomorrow at 4PM EDT because I posted it a day late, and well, people are just getting settled in and locating the game. If you know anyone who enjoys wordplay or who played the game in the past send them my way! I do appreciate it!

I've been having fun checking out widgets and gadgets, etc. for my sidebar. I'm disappointed, though, that we aren't able to add them one by one and re-arrange them as easily as we were able to in AOL. You take the good with the bad, I suppose. I am still feeling a bit lost. I guess it takes me longer than most folks. Like I said, I am a gal who likes routine and predictability. If you see anything you like on my blog and are interested in having it, let me know and I will help you locate it. I really like the Neocounter. It is fun and was so very easy to install! I have a few causes that are dear to my heart on my sidebar if you can check them out. Most are click sites and only take a couple of minutes out of your day and can do a world of good. Thanks =)!!

Oh, good news, Krissy and John migrated their blogs!! They had a tough few weeks... I am sure they would love to hear from you guys!!

Weekly Sentence #33, what's up...

Good morning and happy Monday! I haven't posted in awhile, a real post. I was thrown for the biggest loop with the blog migrations. I don't like change. I really don't. I am a gal who likes routine. I can handle change, though, but it takes me awhile. I think I am okay now. LOL Things have been kind of crazy in my family. My mom is doing better since her surgery. It was a tough road for her, but she is getting better since her surgery. If you haven't been following my blog, my mom fractured her neck and had surgery - not easy for a lady in her 70's. John, my sister Krissy's husband, is doing quite a bit better, too. He is still away at Hershey. He had chicken pox and pneumonia and a couple of other problems. I will allow Krissy to fill you in on that when she returns. She sends her love to everyone. She is very stir crazy and is sad that she hasn't been able to blog in a couple of weeks. She hasn't even been able to migrate her journal.

I am going to start the Sentence Game fresh this morning. Since the migration, I don't think it would be fair to judge the last group of letters I gave you guys. There are a number of bloggers I haven't been able to locate yet. I wanted to ask a few things of you all before I post the letters because we are a bit scattered about...

my mom, Weekly Sentence #30 letters...

Hi! Sorry I haven't posted the six letters for the "Weekly Sentence" game yet. I will in this entry. I have been busy. My mom went in for emergency cervical/spine surgery this morning at 7 AM. I am still waiting for a phone call to hear that she is okay. My momma has been pretty sick the past year with nausea, numbness, problems walking, well a host of ills... and they found a problem with her disk at c-3 on her spine on an MRI. They called her Saturday morning and told her not to move or she could be paralyzed. So it must be pretty bad. They scheduled her first thing for surgery this morning. Mom will be 76 this month. Thanks for your concern and prayers. I will be helping mom and dad when mom gets out of the hospital in a few days, so if I am not in close contact for a week or two, you guys know why. I was going to go to Hershey with Krissy and John and walk in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Walk, but my parents need me now. If you got an email from John or Krissy concerning the walk and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, please consider giving! It is such a worthy cause!! They helped save John's life!!! Now onto the "Weekly Sentence" game!

P.S. I just got a call from the hospital. My mom is okay.   It was a four hour surgery. I found out that she got a whole disk taken out. Then they put in a metal plate in c-3 and c-4 and screws. Wow. She is a trooper. She has to go to a local rehabilitation hospital to stay for awhile. It was pretty major, but she is okay. Thank goodness.   I have to go help my Daddy. He is 80.   I will let you all know how it goes.

Hi and good afternoon! I just found out this morning that my little mommy will need spine surgery soon - probably this coming week. Poor little mommy. She has had problems with numbness and walking for some time now. Hopefully this will straighten things out. Thanks for your concern and prayers. I know I can count on you guys! As for what I have been busy on? Well, I have been creating a webpage for something that I am going to participate in next week, but I may not be able to, now that my little mommy is having surgery. Hi Weekly Sentence players!  How are you doing today? I've been very busy. I'm working on a couple of projects that I will let you guys know I am doing very soon. Good afternoon! I hope you are enjoying the beginning of your Labor Day weekend! I am. I'm tired. I stayed up late last night to watch the movie "To Kill a Mockingbird" on cable. I absolutely had to watch it because it is one of my all-time favorite books. The movie was not as good as the book, but what movie is? I did really enjoy the movie, however, and highly recommend it if you are renting movies on this long Labor Day weekend.

I have a big favor to ask you guys...

I need you, my readers who have me on alerts, to do me a BIG favor. I am not getting all of my comments recorded. This has been going on since I have switched from "Val's Thoughts" to "There is a Season". I realized why this is happening and this can be easily fixed. If you get my entry alerts that say "Val's Thoughts" I need you to follow a couple of steps for me. If you get your alert under "There is a Season" you can disregard this entry. Thanks =) If you get it under "Val's Thoughts", and you probably do if you have been reading me for more than three years, please do these two steps:

   1. Go to your "Manage My Alerts" and delete Val's Thoughts entry alerts.
       You can do this by going to my journal front page and clicking "Alerts"
       at the top of my journal and then clicking "Entry Alert" and "Manage
       my Alerts". The delete bottom is the farthest on the right, I believe.

    2. Come back to my journal and click on "Alerts" and "Entry Alert" then "Ok".

Thanks, you guys! I have gotten 27 comments in the last 20 hours and only 16 have been recorded. I have kept quiet for so long. I think I will fix it now. Take care and you all have a good weekend!

a post braaaiin surgery photo!

Hi. This is Krissy, Val's sister. I thought I would write you a quick entry while Val is asleep! I just found a photo looking through old files on my computer. It's a photo of Val, when she was still in the hospital, right after her braaaaaiin surgery. It was July of 2004. I wanted to show you all that, yes, indeed, she really was bald, LOL.

Actually, to make certain that I would not cross her boundaries and disrespect her, and also so that she wouldn't kill me, LOL, I decided to phone her before I posted this photo. So I just called her a few seconds ago on the phone to ask her if I could put one of her "brain surgery, bald photos" in her blog. She said yes!

So without further ado, here is a photo of the very beautiful Valerie in July 2004, in her hospital bed. Next to her is her very beautiful daughter, Chelsea. Val's smile radiates everywhere. Now, bald or no, doesn't she just light up the room?

How to get free HBO...

I have an entry posted in my other blog of funny answering machine messages. This posting reminds me of a funny message my daughter left on my machine a little over four years ago. We had just moved into my new apartment that I now live in. I had just had my second brain surgery. Chelsea had moved from Florida to come be with me and help out. The message she left on the telephone went something like this: "Hi this is Chelsea. My mom can't come to the phone right now. She is resting from braaaaaaiiiiin surgery. I can't come to the phone because I am helping her out. Please leave your message after the beep."

You would be surprised how many people would call just to listen, laugh, and hang up. One was the cable TV installer. I called to have my cable installed and he called back to set up a time. A short time after the call I got a few calls back with giggles and "ssshhhh's..." and I could tell the cable installer was calling his children to the phone to listen to the message and they were laughing. It didn't bother me at all. I was glad I was making others smile.

A couple days later when the installer came to my home and I opened the door he noticed I was bald. Bald as bald could be. His jaw dropped. He was so sweet and very accommodating that day. We even noticed that HBO was coming through and it wasn't in my package. I would have had to pay more. He told me not to worry about it and I could have it for free. I had HBO for four years and didn't pay a penny for it. I never watched a single show on it, but every time I channel-surfed and passed by HBO, I giggled thinking that I got it free because of her message and his guilt feelings. The HBO disappeared about three weeks ago. I wonder if he left the cable company. Thanks, cable man, even though I didn't watch anything, it was still nice!!

Something from my heart, a reminder...

A very dear person sent me the above quote. It is chock-full of wisdom. I think our normal instinct, when we feel we are being attacked, is to strike back immediately. When we strike back, especially on our blog, or in an email, we can never, ever take it back. You can delete the entry in a blog, but the words are forever written and can be found by doing a search. Please think before you write an entry or a comment. Also, listen with your heart before you get upset. The person may not have attacked you at all. What was their intention? It may have been another message entirely. Most of us are civilized humans who don't want to hurt one another. Most of us. Please think.

"Weekly Sentence" #25!...

I have been updating my other journal, Joy In The Rain, almost daily, if you want a happy place to visit. It if filled with jokes and fun and inspirational quotes.

I didn't mean to sound like a sermon above, I am not one to bring others down. I have vowed to make this journal a place that is ONLY positive. I just know that there are two sides to ever story - always. Ask questions! Sometimes we see things darkly. Sometimes very darkly. I always try to remember that the other person always thinks they are right, too. Attacking the other person does nothing but hurt. And it can hurt terribly. I am saddened, so saddened by the anger, hate, and jealousy that I have seen in entries being passed off as "enlightenment". We have our own minds. We don't need to blindly agree with others vile-ness and anger because it appears to be in a pretty package. Others can write anything they please, yes, but ignorance (by choosing not to ask questions) and hate gets us nowhere except hurting others feelings.

Good morning "Weekly Sentence" players! This game has lasted 25 weeks! Happy 25th Anniversary to all of you who play and enjoy this game!! You have made it successful and I really appreciate it! Wow, this week was EXTREMELY difficult for the judges. They told me how rough it was for them! They had 21 submissions to go through and they were all so good! Weekly Sentence reminder, some news...

Hi you!! I haven't smoked in a week =)!! It hasn't been easy but it has been a whole week! Yay me!! I am using the patch and that has certainly made it easier. I quit once in my 30's using the patch. I picked up smoking two years later, though, and continued to smoke another seven years. Oh, don't ever think just one won't hurt when you are a smoker who has quit. It DOES!! I tried Chantix (a smoking-cessation drug) a couple of months ago and I got so darn sick on it I couldn't continue. Wish me well and if you are a praying person, I would appreciate your prayers!

The flood was stopped in my computer room and the phone is now working in my apartment. It was a small disaster, but all is well now. I will be posting the winner(s) of the "Weekly Sentence" game in the next day or two. Perhaps today, even. I don't even know who the judges have chosen. I haven't gotten through all of my emails yet. Val's computer isn't working

Hi, this is Krissy, Val's sister. I have some not so hot news to tell you. Valerie will not be able to use her computer for a little while. It could be a few days, or maybe a week or two. Please hang on, don't abandon her, and wait till she gets back!

She, of course, plans on continuing her Weekly Sentence With Val game, and all of her other entries, when she gets back.

Something crazy happened. The guy upstairs put his air conditioner in wrong, and water came down and ruined the phone system in her whole house. So she doesn't have phone power for her computer. No phone, no computer, ugh. She'll be back when it is fixed.

It could be soon.

Recent pictures of my grandbabies...

The wedding I went to last Saturday was very beautiful. It was short and very sweet. Jonah sat and watched with me and was quiet the whole time. Josiah was so good walking down the aisle. He was the ring-bearer. He walked down with such purpose! I was very surprised! He stood there through the entire ceremony. I am so pleased he stood there the whole time. LOL Here are pictures of the two little ones from this weekend. I am sorry they aren't larger, but I didn't take the pictures. I don't even have one of the bride and groom =(.

Jonah is nine months old now...

Josiah is 22 months old...

Josiah is holding a bottle of bubbles, which he absolutely loved, and we had a hard time snatching from him. He had a difficult time blowing bubbles himself, but he chased other kid's all over the lawn.
